ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team held Davis & Elkins to a season-low in scoring to earn its fifth straight victory, 65-57, in a Mountain East Conference game at the Carter Center Saturday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions (13-11, 9-7 MEC) jumped out to an early lead and let their defense take it the rest of the way.

Sophomore guard
Madison Young followed up her record-breaking three-point shooting night at West Virginia Wesleyan by knocking down an early triple to give CU a 5-0 lead just over a minute into play. Then, junior forward
Imani Hickman buried a triple followed by a layup from junior forward
Abbie Smith to push the advantage to nine, 12-3, with 7:34 on the clock.

Young connected on another three-point basket to extend the lead to double figures, 15-5, at the 6:59 mark. A pair of free throws from senior guard
Faith Diggs gave Concord its largest lead of the frame, 23-10, with 2:44 left in the period and carried a 24-17 edge into the second.

Skylar Davidson scored midway through the second quarter to swell the margin back to double figures, 32-21. D&E (2-21, 1-15 MEC) was able to get the margin back to seven points, 38-31, at halftime.

The second half began with another three-point basket from Young and a layup from Davidson to give CU a 43-31 edge after the first minute of the third. CU locked down the Senators (2-21, 1-15 MEC) in the third period, only allowing D&E to shoot 12.5 percent (3-for-24) from the floor and 1-of-8 (12.5 percent) from three-point range.

Leading by seven, 50-43, heading into the fourth, Concord scored the first seven points to stretch the lead out to 14 points. Later in the frame, Davidson found Diggs for a three-pointer to give the Maroon and Gray their largest advantage of the game, 62-45, with 5:05 left in regulation as CU held on for the eight-point win.

Smith led CU in scoring, netting 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds along with two blocks. Young scored in double figures for the second straight game with 15 points that included four three-pointers. Davidson filled her stat line up with eight points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Mountain Lions held Davis & Elkins to a season-low 25.7 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from long range.
