WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team was defeated by Wheeling, 77-65, in a Mountain East Conference road contest at the McDonough Center Wednesday evening.

Trailing by as many as nine in the first half, CU (13-12, 9-8 MEC) cut the deficit to three at the halftime.

Imani Hickman and senior guard
Sanaiya Morris hit back-to-back three-pointers to come within three, 27-24, with 6:50 left in the second. The Cardinals (14-11, 10-7 MEC) jumped back ahead by eight, but the Mountain Lions had one more run before the break.

Alexis Frazee and junior guard
Kennedy Scales netted back-to-back layups to make it a three-point game once again, 34-31, at the 2:39 mark. Wheeling hit a triple with 35 seconds on the clock, but Scales responded with a three of her own as Concord went into the halftime break down by three, 41-38.

Frazee struck first in the third, finding the net on a putback to make it a one-point game at the 9:14 mark. Then, later in the frame, Scales made a layup out of a media timeout to knot the game, 50-50, with 4:33 left in the frame. However, the Cardinals carried an eight-point lead, 61-53, into the fourth.

CU got as close as four early in the fourth period, but was unable to get any closer as WU closed out a 77-65 victory.

Both teams battled for the lead early on in the first quarter with six ties and throughout the frame. Hickman scored a team-best seven points in the opening 10 minutes, hitting a three-pointer with under a minute as the Maroon and Gray fell in a 22-16 hole after one.

Hickman led CU with 18 points and tied her career-high of four-made three-pointers. Morris, junior forward
Abbie Smith, and senior guard
Skylar Davidson all finished with 10 points each. Smith scored eight of her 10 points in the game in the fourth quarter. Davidson added seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals to her stat line.
