COMEBACK CATS
The Mountain Lions won their series at Mars Hill to begin the season despite not scoring first in either of the first two wins. Concord was down 2-0 in game one of the series before winning 8-7 in 10 innings, and found itself trailing 13-0 after one inning in the second game of the three-game set before grabbing an 18-16 win. CU had nine wins last season when the opposition scored first. The 13-run deficit at Mars Hill was the first time the Maroon and Gray overcame a double-digit run margin since at least 2007. Senior utility
MJ Hunter had the decisive hit in the 18-16 win, coming up with a two-run single in the top of the ninth. Meanwhile, junior outfielder
Korbin Bostic doubled in the top of the 10
th as Concord won the opener at MHU.
ON THE MOVE
In the first three games of the season, Concord was aggressive on the bases as it stole 10 bases in 11 tries. Four different Mountain Lions—junior infielder
Matthew DiSanti, senior outfielder
D.J. Christian Jr., junior outfielder
Dawson Gragg and Hunter all swiped two bases at Mars Hill. Last season, the Mountain Lions only recorded 33 stolen bases in 45 tries with Hunter accounting for 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. CU's 3.3 stolen bases per game is tied for 11
th in Division II early in the season. Though he did not play last year, Christian is 24-for-29 in his career on stolen bases while Hunter has now stolen 20 bases in his four seasons.
MATCHING UP WITH THE BEST
Concord's doubleheader against East Stroudsburg came about after the Mountain Lions lost their three-game series with Pitt-Johnstown due to excessive snowfall in southern West Virginia earlier in the week coupled with expected rain over the weekend. Friday's twinbill is only the second and third all-time games between the two teams—the first contest was in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The Warriors finished last year at 43-14 and have been to three straight NCAA Tournaments. CU is no stranger to facing PSAC East Division powerhouses as it was narrowly clipped by then-18
th ranked West Chester, 10-9, last year. Sophomore outfielder/pitcher
Demario Faison and Gragg were both 2-for-5 in that game. Senior outfielder
Demetri Jamison drove in a pair of runs. CU is seeking its first win over a nationally-ranked non-conference foe since a 5-3 win over Mercyhurst in 2022.
