ATHENS, W.Va. – As the final days of 2025 come off the calendar, the Concord University Sports Information Department will look back on the best moments from the past 365 days that includes All-American recognitions, plenty of growth and change in and around the Carter Center and unforgettable games and plays.
From December 22-31, the year-end countdown will highlight one moment each in the Best of 2025.
On Christmas Day, Concord baseball gets the spotlight for the national attention it received for the program and the campus for a pair of defensive gems.
On February 25 against Emory & Henry,
Dawson Gragg took two runs off the scoreboard when he reached over the center field fence and robbed the Wasps of a two-run home run in the top of third inning. The play was captured by Jon Surratt of WVVA-TV, and the catch eventually ended up on ESPN's SportsCenter's Top 10 plays segment at number five. Gragg's catch went on to win Concord Male Sports Play of the Year at the Concord Athletics' Champions Gala and was the MEC Play of the Year during the summer months.
CU baseball made another appearance on ESPN in May courtesy of
Alex Rodriguez. In the MEC Tournament, the utility player for the Mountain Lions flipped over the short wall in left field foul territory at Charleston's GoMart Ballpark as he recorded the second out in the bottom of the seventh with his spectacular grab. Rodriguez's play landed at number four in the daily edition of SportsCenter Top Plays for May 9.
Both plays can be viewed below.
