ATHENS, W.Va. – As the final days of 2025 come off the calendar, the Concord University Sports Information Department will look back on the best moments from the past 365 days that includes All-American recognitions, plenty of growth and change in and around the Carter Center and unforgettable games and plays.
From December 22-31, the year-end countdown will highlight one moment each in the Best of 2025.
During the 2024-25 season, the Concord University women's basketball team had a flare for the dramatics.
Five of Concord's 15 wins came by six points or less, including a pair of games that came down to the final shot or two.
On January 9, Concord and West Virginia Wesleyan played a nail biter where the lead exchanged hands three times in the final 1:14 of the game. However, on this wintry evening,
Abbie Smith assured the Mountain Lions would walk away with a 74-73 win. WVWC's Emma Witt stepped up to the foul line with three seconds remaining in a 72-72 tie. After missing the first foul shot, the second one was good.
Skylar Davidson took the in-bounds pass, without a timeout to set up a play, and fired the ball up ahead to Smith who banked in a 20-foot, top-of-the-key jump shot as the buzzer sounded inside the Carter Center.
Just over three weeks later, it was time for Davidson to hit a game-deciding shot on February 1 against Frostburg State. With the game tied at 75-75 and the clocks—both game and shot clock—working against the Mountain Lions. Davidson lost her dribble behind the three-point line and scrambling to get a shot up before the end of the shot clock, she re-gathered the ball and hoisted a 30-foot shot that found the bottom of the net just ahead of the expiration of the shot timer. Only six seconds remained in the game when Davidson's shot went through.
Concord went on to win the game 79-77.
