12/28/2025 12:34:00 PM

ATHENS, W.Va. – As the final days of 2025 come off the calendar, the Concord University Sports Information Department will look back on the best moments from the past 365 days that includes All-American recognitions, plenty of growth and change in and around the Carter Center and unforgettable games and plays.

From December 22-31, the year-end countdown will highlight one moment each in the Best of 2025.

Just like for moment number five in the best of 2025, a championship performance highlights the countdown at number four.

The CU men's soccer team returned to the Mountain East Conference Championship Game for a second consecutive season.

After a 12-win regular season that included 10 wins in conference play. The 31 points that Concord picked up during MEC play allowed the Mountain Lions to clinch the second seed in the MEC Tournament and an important bye into the semifinal round.

Malher Santi Possu put Concord up 1-0 on West Liberty in the 23rd minute of the semifinal game, but the Hilltoppers responded just over two minutes later. Santiago Lopez broke the 1-1 tie in the 61st minute on a set piece goal. Again West Liberty answered in the 67th minute with its own goal from a set piece.

Just 2:30 after the Hilltoppers' goal, Santi Possu delivered his first brace of the season to give Concord a 3-2 edge—the eventual margin of victory.

In the MEC Championship, Concord would play Charleston in what was the seventh meeting between the two teams since the start of the 2024 season. UC scored in the first nine minutes of the game, but it did not deter the Mountain Lions as they broke through with a goal from Dominique Malhomme in the 53rd minute.

However, it was Charleston that found the next goal as the Golden Eagles hung on for a 2-1 win after their 61st minute goal.
