ATHENS, W.Va. – As the final days of 2025 come off the calendar, the Concord University Sports Information Department will look back on the best moments from the past 365 days that includes All-American recognitions, plenty of growth and change in and around the Carter Center and unforgettable games and plays.
From December 22-31, the year-end countdown will highlight one moment each in the Best of 2025.
Checking in at number six in the best of 2025 is CU men's basketball.
In a season where the Concord men's basketball team earned its 1,200
th program win and advanced to the Mountain East Conference Semifinals, perhaps the two biggest wins of the season were a pair of January road wins for the Mountain Lions.
On January 15, the Mountain Lions shot 52.5 percent from the floor and outrebounded West Liberty 42-25 on its way to an 85-77 win over the nationally-ranked, 10
th-rated Hilltoppers. It marked the first time in more than two decades that Concord had won at WLU.
Corey Boston led the way with 22 points while
Amare Smith and
Kollin Tolbert both had 17 points in the victory.
But, CU wasn't done knocking off nationally-ranked teams in their own building. Two weeks after the West Liberty win, the Mountain Lions visited the seventh-ranked Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State.
Concord survived 10 lead changes and nine ties inside Joe Retton Arena as it scored 10 of the game's final 13 points on CU's way to securing an 89-84 victory. It was the first time since February 2019 that the Mountain Lions had walked out of FSU with a road win. Tolbert netted 26 points while
Ken Sallee (14) and
Josiah Rickards (13) combined for 27 points off the bench.
Just like in the win at West Liberty, Concord was an efficient 55.4 percent from the field while owning the glass with a 39-23 rebounding margin.
