ATHENS, W.Va. – Behind a hat trick from sophomore forward
Tiana Campbell, the Concord University women's soccer team defeated Point Park, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in the Mountain East Conference Quarterfinals at Callaghan Stadium.
CU (11-5-3) moves onto the semifinals where it will play at Fairmont State Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at FSU's Duvall-Rosier Field.
Campbell got the scoring started early as sophomore midfielder
Stephanie Tovar delivered Concord's first corner kick of the afternoon in the ninth minute where Campbell headed home her 13th goal of the year. It was the only shot on goal of the first half as the Mountain Lions outshot Point Park (8-7-4) 7-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
After a bevy of chances—including Campbell hitting the left post in the 64th minute and freshman midfielder
Daisy Cook having a goal waved off in the 68th minute—Concord finally doubled its lead in the 69th minute.
Sophomore midfielder
Ella Rowell struck a free kick from the right corner outside the 18-yard box to the far post where Campbell was waiting to head in her second goal of the day.
Point Park ripped off three shots on goal between the 71st and 76th minutes, but sophomore goalkeeper
Maddie Loughborough collected all three shots to keep the lead at 2-0.
The third CU goal came off another corner kick. This time, PPU was unable to clear. Freshman midfielder
Mia Cook tapped a pass to senior defender
Jessica Neville who teed up a blast for Campbell in the 88th minute.
The Mountain Lions outshot Point Park 20-6 in the game, and took four of the game's five corner kicks.
Campbell outshot the Pioneers by herself with eight shots on the day. D. Cook tallied four shots.
Loughborough recorded four saves.
