FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team bowed out of the Mountain East Conference Tournament in the semifinal round with a 2-1 defeat at Fairmont State Wednesday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.

The Mountain Lions (11-6-3) equalized in the 25th minute, but it was Fairmont State (15-1-3) that netted the eventual game-winning goal in the 77th minute.

FSU opened the scoring in the ninth minute off a free kick that took a deflection and caromed into the right side of the goal.

In the 25th minute, a pass landed at the feet of sophomore midfielder Stephanie Tovar. After taking a couple touches, the ball was sent to sophomore forward Tiana Campbell who blasted in her 16th goal of the season.

CU controlled the remainder of the first half as the Mountain Lions had seven shots to Fairmont State's four in the first 45 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Marika Svensson and freshman midfielder Mia Cook had attempts go high in the final three minutes of the first half.

The Mountain Lions escaped a couple chances by the Fighting Falcons in the 53rd and 56th minute as Campbell cleared a shot off the line on the latter attempt. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough turned aside a Fairmont State shot in the 63rd minute.

In the 77th minute, Loughborough stopped an initial attempt by FSU, but was unable to recover on the rebound as the Fighting Falcons took the lead.

Campbell had a look at her second equalizer in the 84th minute, and senior forward Caitlin Webster ripped a shot in the 85th minute that was saved. The final chance for CU came in the final 50 seconds as a shot from Cook missed the target.

The Mountain Lions outshot Fairmont State, 15-13, while taking eight of the game's 12 corner kicks.

Campbell led all players in the game with four shots (three on goal). Svensson tallied three shots. Both shots for Webster were on goal.
