BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore forward
Kraig Gilbert of the Concord University men's basketball team has been pegged as the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office released Monday afternoon.
Gilbert shares this week's award with Frostburg State's Mike Montano.
The Grove City, Ohio native averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in two CU wins during the week. Overall, Gilbert shot 55.6 percent (15-for-27) from the floor and 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from three-point range.
He started the week with 19 points and five rebounds in a 61-50 win over Bluefield State. Gilbert tallied 18 of his 19 points after halftime as Concord pulled away from the Big Blues.
On Saturday, Gilbert threw in a career-high 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting. He connected on three three-pointers, including hitting the game winner with a three-pointer at the buzzer in an 81-79 win over California (Pa.).
Defensively, Gilbert had a pair of blocks in each game.
Concord is off from action until December 3 when it travels to West Virginia State to open MEC play.
