INDIANA, Pa. – The Concord University men's basketball team lost 93-74 to Indiana (Pa.) to open the season Friday night at IUP's Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Mountain Lions (0-1) got off to a fast start as three early triples got CU out to an 11-4 lead just over 3:30 into the game. IUP responded by capping a 10-2 run at the 13:39 mark, taking a 14-13 edge.
Sophomore guard
Cole Lambert had a three-pointer on the next trip for Concord to push the Maroon and Gray back in front. CU stayed within striking distance as a layup from junior forward
Anfernee Hanna trimmed the deficit to 26-21 with 7:24 remaining in the first half.
However, the Crimson Hawks steadily pulled ahead and led 47-33 at the break.
A Hanna bucket in the first 90 seconds of the second half reduced the deficit to 47-37, but it was as close as Concord would get over the final 18 minutes of the contest.
Sophomore guard
Josiah Rickards tossed in 19 points. Hanna netted 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting to go with six rebounds. Junior forward
Boubacar Djigo opened the season with a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds. He filled the stat sheet with a pair of blocks and two steals.
Sophomore forward
Kraig Gilbert tallied nine points and two blocks.
Concord faces off with Pitt-Johnstown 5:15 Saturday night to close the Hilton Garden Inn Classic at IUP.
