WELCOME BACK!
The Mountain Lions tip off the season at home for the first time since 2011-12, which resulted in a win over West Virginia Tech. A season ago, the Mountain Lions finished with a 15-14 record to secure back-to-back winning seasons. Though the Mountain Lions were just a game over .500 for the season, they sported an 8-4 record inside the Carter Center last season. Concord fell in the MEC Tournament in an overtime loss to Frostburg State, 94-87. CU returns five players from last year's team.

FIRST TIME HOSTS

Concord will host the MEC-PSAC Challenge for the first time in program history. CU has been apart of the MEC-PSAC Challenge since 2016 and have posted a 6-10 record. Fairmont State, Seton Hill, and Lock Haven are the three visiting teams that will also take to the court this weekend. This is the third season in a row that these four teams have squared off to start the season.

NEW FACES

CU brings in a lot of new talent for the 2025-26 season with 17 additions being added to the roster. These new pieces consist of nine transfers and eight new freshmen. Six of the eight freshmen are from the Mountain State. A very notable transfer Coach Tesla Southcott is sophomore guard Kenyah Stubbs. Stubbs played her freshman season at Glenville State and Concord will be happy she's in Maroon and Gray this season. Stubbs appeared in all 31 games for the Pioneers and scored in double figures six times, and racking up three or more steals four times. Another notable transfer fro CU is Beckley, West Virginia native Olivia Ziolkowski who spent the first three years of career at Division I Marshall University. Southcott also welcomes a new staff as Morgan Mitchell and Caroline Houpe join her on the bench. Mitchell came from Division III University of Dubuque in Iowa. Houpe is a CU alum, playing at Concord form 2021-2024.

SENIOR LEADERS

Despite a large turnover on this roster, two very important figures remain. Guard Kennedy Scales and forward Abbie Smith. Starting with Scales, she has been here all four seasons, seeing a big uptick in playing time in 2024-25. She averaged 6.5 points per game and 1.4 assists per game. Scales scored in double figures six times last season, including 10 points to open the year against Lock Haven. The headliner for the Mountain Lions is Smith. She was named to the All-MEC First Team in 2024-25 and was one of three players in the conference to average a double-double (17.4 pts and 10.7 rpg). Smith leads Concord in almost every statistic among returners and will anchor the team on both ends of the floor. The Little Hocking, Ohio native starts the year with 1,367 points, and needs just two points to move into the top 10 at CU. Smith is only 186 rebounds shy of 1,000 for her career, and was the only player in the MEC that averaged a double-double a season ago (17.4 points, 10.7 rebounds).

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE

The Carter Center has been a tough place to play for opponents of CU Women's Basketball. In 2024-25, Concord posted a 8-4 record at home. Six of those eight wins in front of the home faithful were conference games. Under Southcott, the Mountain Lions hold a 24-14 record at home. This is Concord's first time playing Seton Hill at home since the 2010-11 season and their first time hosting Lock Haven. CU's average margin of victory in eight home wins last year was 11.8 points, including a 92-69 triumph over nationally-ranked Fairmont State.

CRANK UP THE PRESSURE

Concord loves to force opponents to be uncomfortable and turn the ball over. The Mountain Lions were one of four teams in the MEC to average over 10 steals a game (10.72) With their high pressure defense, CU had a +2.21 turnover margin on the season and forced opponents to commit 20 turnovers per game on average.

SCOUTING THE SETON HILL GRIFFINS
Seton Hill is coming off a fantastic season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history and winning the first round matchup vs. Clarion. The Griffins were projected to finish second in the PSAC West behind only Gannon, the team who knocked them out of both the PSAC and NCAA Tournaments. SHU brings back the Cowan twins at the guard spots, as well as junior forward Mia Kalich who averaged a double-dobule a season ago.

SCOUTING THE LOCK HAVEN BALD EAGLES
Lock Haven finished with a 20-9 record in 2024-25 and falling in the PSAC Semifinals. In the 2023-24 campaigh, Lock Haven had an astounding year, going 29-4 before losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to #1 seed Gannon. The Bald Eagles bring back four scorers that averaged double figures last season including senior guard Jenadia Jordan, junior forward Madeline Evans, senior forward Alana Robinson, and junior forward Rhlyn Rouse.
