FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University football team lost 33-7 at Frostburg State Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Bobcat Stadium.
Trailing 20-0 at halftime, the Mountain Lions (2-3, 1-2 MEC) wasted no time finding the end zone in the third quarter. Freshman kicker
Adam El Baraka pinned the opening kickoff in the second half into the corner at the one-yard line. After FSU (5-0, 3-0 MEC) was unable to handle the kickoff, CU took over at the one-yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage, redshirt freshman quarterback
Robert Shockey dove across the goal line for his second rushing touchdown in as many games.
Concord nearly caught another break as an onside kick attempt was nearly fumbled away by the Bobcats.
Frostburg State was able to restore a 20-point lead, 27-7, later in the third quarter.
Down 27-7, CU's special teams continued to play well in the second half as junior linebacker
Brodee Rice jumped on a muffed punt. But, the Mountain Lions were unable to cash in on their second takeaway of the day.
The first half was tough on the Mountain Lions as they were only able to come up with 75 yards of offense. On the first play from scrimmage, sophomore quarterback
Tyler Mizzell connected with redshirt freshman wide receiver
Dom Collins on a 25-yard pass. But CU was held largely held in check in the first 30 minutes.
Senior defensive back
Corey Radcliff came up with his MEC-leading fourth interception of the season to shut down a Frostburg State red zone attempt, picking off a pass in the end zone.
Sophomore linebacker
Xavier Ellison paced Concord with 13 tackles, a single-game high for any CU player this year. Graduate defensive lineman
Jaylen Dollar notched five of his seven tackles in the first half.
Mizzell finished with 86 yards passing on just 10 completions. Junior running back
Israel Rhodes racked up 59 yards on the ground on eight attempts.
