WHEELING, W.Va. – Freshman
Violet Wall of the Concord University women's cross country team was named the Mountain East Conference Freshman of the Year after the completion of the conference championship meet Saturday morning at Oglebay Resort.
Wall, a native of Pearisburg, Virginia, also earned All-MEC First Team after she placed ninth at the MEC Championship in a time of 23:41 for the 6,000-meter course. Wall becomes the first conference freshman of the year for CU since Sydney Haynes in 2017.
As a team, the Mountain Lions finished seventh with 178.
Junior
Sara Turner was the next Concord runner through as she placed 37
th with a time of 25:18. Freshman
Avery Lilly was 40
th in her MEC Championship debut with a time of 25:24. Senior
Katy Walkup crossed in 44
th, running 25:47.
The final scoring runner for the Mountain Lions was junior
Charlotte McGinnis who placed 55
th in a time of 26:39. Junior
Piper Doughton clocked 26:57 in 58
th. Sophomore
Kate Kelly ran 27:08. Rounding out the Concord field were junior
Abbey Londeree (27:56), freshman

Davis & Elkins repeated as the team champion, doing so with ease as the Senators won by 56 points over Point Park (32-88).
Point Park's Cassondra O'Connor won the race with a time of 22:28. She was also the MEC Runner of the Year while D&E's head coach Jason Pyles was the MEC Coach of the Year.
Concord races at the Atlantic Region Championship November 8 at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania.
