ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 draw with Salem Wednesday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium in a non-conference battle.

Concord had eight shots in the first half but were unable to put a shot on target.

The only quality chance came in the final minute of the first half. Salem (2-6-6) capitalized on a failed clearance, but senior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill made a brilliant kick save to keep the match level entering the break.

In the second half, the Mountain Lions ramped up the pressure trying to hem Salem in their own half.

In the 50th minute, junior forward
Dominique Malhomme fired a shot that was parried away.

Ten minutes later, in the 60th, senior midfielder
Mahler Santi Possu also drilled a shot on goal, forcing another save.

After all of the chances, it was Salem who opened the scoring in the 67th minute with a successful counterattack.

The Mountain Lions needed just four minutes to answer the SU goal. They finally broke when  senior defender
Ted Roberts took a short corner to senior midfielder
Toby Evens-Gilham who banged a goal home from distance for his first goal of the season.

Over the final 17 minutes, Concord applied more pressure with six shots, but had to settle for its first tie of the season, 1-1.

Concord finished with a season-high 24 shots to Salem's seven. Possu led the team with seven shots. Junior midfielder
Issa El Assal and Malhomme both had three shots. Scargill tallied two saves.

Concord hits the road for a crucial Mountain East Conference matchup against Davis & Elkins Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
