BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Senior midfielder
Mahler Santi Possu and freshman defender
Adam Leibowitz of the Concord University men's soccer team have been named Mountain East Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respectively, presented by The Health Plan, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Possu, a native of Cali, Colombia, recorded three goals and two assists in two CU wins during the week.
He picked up an assist in Concord's 2-0 win at Point Park, but he left his best work of the week for the home match against West Virginia Wesleyan. Possu's first goal made a great run through the back line and calmly finished his first goal of the match right under the keeper's arm in the 12th minute.
He continued the scoring just 22 minutes later winning another one on one against the Bobcat goalie.
In the second half, Possu drove home a cross with a nice sliding finish to cap off his second hat trick of the season. Possu leads the conference with 10 goals, four more than the next player.
Leibowitz scored his first collegiate goal at Point Park in the 80th minute to secure the road victory for Concord.
Against the Bobcats, Leibowitz found the goal sheet again with a great 68th-minute goal smashing a shot into the top left corner. The freshman also played a role in Concord's back-to-back clean sheets, not allowing a shot on goal in either game.
Concord is back in action Wednesday as it hosts Salem at 4:00 p.m. at Callaghan Stadium.
