GETTING BACK ON TRACK
Concord plays two of its final three home games over the next week—CU's home regular-season finale comes October 29 versus Davis & Elkins. The Mountain Lions are coming off a 2-1 loss to Point Park, that was after Concord defeated Frostburg State over the weekend, 3-2, for the first win over FSU in the last four tries. The Maroon and Gray starts the weekend three points ahead of Charleston for second place in the MEC South.
SCORING RATE
For Senior Day, Concord welcomes a West Liberty squad that has surrendered 49 goals this season, just over four per game. In last year's one and only meeting, the Mountain Lions piled up eight goals on the Hilltoppers in an 8-3 victory. Sophomore midfielder
Marika Svensson had a three-point game with a 48
th-minute goal to go with an assist on fellow sophomore midfielder
Lilly Lucas' first career goal in the 79
th minute. CU got off 30 shots in the contest, but allowed 16 shots by the Hilltopers.
Sydney Tucker scored three times while
Anna Davis came off the bench with a brace.
HUGELY IMPORTANT
Wednesday starts the second round of MEC South play. If both teams win over the weekend, UC hosts Point Park Sunday, Concord would stay three points ahead of Charleston in the MEC South for second place—the top two teams in each division host the first round of MEC Tournament games. The Maroon and Gray is seeking its first win over Charleston since the 2022 season. The two sides played to a 0-0 draw in September at Charleston.
CONTROLLING THE PACE
In the scoreless tie at Charleston September 24, the Mountain Lions doubled up UC in total shots, 18-9, but Golden Eagles' goalkeeper Sofia Chaverra stopped 11 shots to keep the shutout for Charleston. Svensson and Webster both pushed three shots on target with Webster tallying five total in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper
Maddie Loughborough recorded four saves for one of her four shutouts this season. In Concord's seven conference games, the Mountain Lions have only been outshot once—by Fairmont State (14-11). And overall, Concord has taken 153 shots in nine conference games while only allowing 62 shots by the opposition.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
West Liberty picked up its first conference win of the season in a 1-0 win versus Davis & Elkins Wednesday. Perla Backberg who leads WLU in goals with five had the game's only score. Maya Taggert has scored twice this year. After giving up 40 goals in the first eight games of the season, WLU has only surrendered nine goals over the last four games.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Charleston enters the weekend still looking for a marquee victory on the season as UC is 0-3-1 against the top three teams in each division of the MEC. The Golden Eagles scored first versus MEC North leader Fairmont State Wednesday, but allowed three goals between the 68
th and 73
rd minutes in the loss. Li-Lou Debaecker has six goals this season with a hat trick versus West Liberty and a brace against Salem. Jamie Bland has netted four goals to go with two assists.
