ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team opens its 2025 campaign with a trio of games against Kentucky State and Carson-Newman at the Eagle Invitational in Jefferson City, Tennessee Saturday and Sunday.

FAMILIAR FACES
Senior infielder
Courtney Raines returns the top batting average for the Mountain Lions in 2025, having slashed .353/.417/.500 last spring. Raines also hit 16 doubles a year ago, tied for the third-most in the MEC. Junior pitcher/infielder
Madison Hollis split time between first base and in the circle last season, posting a 3.64 earned run average and hitting .327 at the dish with three home runs. Junior catcher/utility
Morgan Gleason and sophomore infielder
Kendall Morgan were also mainstays in the Mountain Lions' order in 2024, swinging .248 and.243, respectively. Sophomore pitcher
Josi Ervin also returns pitching production, seeing action in 33 games and striking out a team-best 67 hitters. CU also gets back junior infielder
Lacie Lewis, who missed a majority of 2024 due to injury. Lewis sports a .349 career batting average with eight home runs in 66 games.
NEW ADDITIONS
The Mountain Lions also welcome 11 new faces to the roster with four players having previous college softball experience. Junior outfielder
Alina Giles played 24 games at Concordia Irvine and won a PacWest Conference title in 2023. Sophomore's
Mikayla Hose (Davis & Elkins) and
Savannah Brehm (Glenville State) come to Athens having previous experience in the Mountain East Conference. Junior catcher/utility
Gianna Sloan-Lebron comes from nearby Bluefield University with a .309 career hitting average in over 200 career at bats. Seven freshmen round out the roster including players from Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
BACK IN JEFFERSON CITY
Carson-Newman and CU faced off last February in Jefferson City with the Eagles coming away with a pair of wins. The Eagles shut out the Mountain Lions 6-0 in game one of the series, but Ervin pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief while picking up a strikeout. The Maroon and Gray struck first in game two as Morgan hit a sac fly in the first inning to take the lead. Morgan finished the game with three RBI while Raines and Hollis each picked up multiple hits at the plate. Lewis drew two walks and scored a run, but Carson-Newman outlasted CU 9-7 in the final game of the set.

SCOUTING THE THOROBRETTES
KSU returns its top pitcher from a season ago in junior Theresa Pelland who appeared in 17 games with a 4.50 ERA and had a team-best 67 strikeouts. Sophomore first baseman Savannah Teale returns the team's best batting average, slugging .351 in 74 plate appearances last spring. Kentucky State head coach David Morton Jr. returns for his eighth season at the helm of the Thorobrettes.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Carson-Newman returns one of its three All-South Atlantic Conference First Team selections in senior infielder Hayden Dye. Dye hit .408 with 12 home runs and tallied 28 total extra-base hits a season ago. Junior utility Macauley Bailey hit a team-best 15 home runs last season and drove in 61 runs while hitting.387. Junior utility Abbi Martin (17) and sophomore outfielder Trinity Brooks (12) also return to the Eagles' lineup after each collecting double-digit stolen bases in 2024.
