NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT
After falling behind by double digits in the fourth quarter Wednesday versus Charleston, CU fought its way back into the lead with just under three minutes to play. Junior forward Abbie Smith engineered the comeback by scoring six points within a six-possession stretch that saw Concord trail 60-59 with 3:21 on the clock. Following a steal by junior guard Kennedy Scales, Smith netted the go-ahead layup and Scales went coast-to-coast on the next series to give the Mountain Lions a 63-60 edge at the 2:41 mark. However, it was UC that would come away with the victory, 64-63, in the closing seconds of the game.

SUPPORT SYSTEM
Senior guard Sanaiya Morris got off to a hot start against the Golden Eagles Wednesday, netting 13 of her 16 points in the game during the first half. She connected on a three-point basket early in the first quarter to begin her night off the bench and finished with seven points in the first frame. In the second quarter, she scored six points and completed her night by going 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Morris' 16 bench points are the second-most this season, falling just shy of junior forward Imani Hickman's 21 bench points against Charleston in November. The Mountain Lions' 27 bench points against UC in the Carter Center are tied for the third-most this season.

FAMILIAR FACE
Senior guard Skylar Davidson will face the school she began her college career with when she steps inside the Waco Center Saturday. Davidson was a member of the Glenville State women's basketball team from 2021-23 before joining the Maroon and Gray prior to her junior season. Additionally, she was a member of the 2021-22 Pioneers squad that captured the Division II national championship. Since playing in 69 career games at GSU, Davidson has started all 38 games she has appeared in at Concord, averaging 10.2 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game as a Mountain Lion. This season, the Mullens, W.Va. native leads the MEC in assists per game (4.8) and steals per game (3.5) while being the team's second-leading scorer (11.5 points per game).

NINE YEARS LATER

Before last March, Concord had not defeated Glenville State since February of 2021 in the Carter Center. The last road win for the Mountain Lions over the Pioneers came in December of 2014. Smith made her presence known in the game, leading CU with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting and snagging 12 rebounds. Four players scored in double figures for the Maroon and Gray including Davidson with 12 points to aid in the 80-75 win. Concord shot a season-high 56.1 percent from the floor in the regular season finale at the Waco Center and logged its second-highest field goal percentage of the 2023-24 season against GSU in the Carter Center (47.8).

BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL
This season, the Pioneers are the MEC's top scoring offense, averaging 86.2 points per game. To accomplish this, GSU is forcing 31.1 opponent turnovers per game and leading the conference in assists per game (16.8) while posting a team field goal percentage of 38.0. Additionally, the Pioneers are coming down with a league-best 48.8 rebounds per game and have a +4.9 average rebounding margin. As a team, GSU is shooting 28.6 percent from three-point range but knock down 9.5 three-pointers per game, the most in the MEC. The Pioneers have cracked 100 points in two games this season while holding the opponent under 60 points four different times to sit at second place in the MEC standings.
