MEC Record: 6-4

KOLLIN'S COLLECTIVE
One of the highlights in Concord's setback versus UC Wednesday night was another scoring outburst by junior guard Kollin Tolbert. The Cincinnati, Ohio native netted 41 points which was his second 40-point game of the season—he scored 58 points in a double overtime contest at Charleston in November. It was the 13th 40-point game in program history as Tolbert became the second player in program history with multiple 40-point contests, joining Tommy Bolte who had eight such games. Among the scoring spree for Tolbert was seven made three-pointers as he finished 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. Since a tough 2-of-12 shooting game at Davis & Elkins two weeks ago, Tolbert is 29-of-45 (64.4 percent) from the floor and 12-for-18 (66.7 percent) from the three-point range in the last three games while netting at least 17 points in each game. Tolbert has jumped back into second in the MEC in scoring as well (19.6 per game).

BOARD IT UP
Paced by a career-high 11 rebounds from sophomore forward Boubacar Djigo, the Mountain Lions were able to outrebounded Charleston 41-32 Wednesday. For Djigo, it was his second career game of at least 10 rebounds after he had 10 boards versus Point Park in December. Six of Djigo's rebounds came on the offensive end where CU tallied a season-best 22 offensive rebounds—the most since last year's regular-season finale at Glenville State. Tolbert added eight rebounds to go with 41 points, matching a season personal best in rebounds this winter. Three of the four rebounds for freshman forward Kraig Gilbert were on the offensive end versus Charleston.  Last season, Concord was 20-3 when it outrebounded the opposition, however, the Maroon and Gray is 4-5 this season. The Mountain Lions sport the second-best rebounding margin in the MEC at +4.4 while Glenville State is fourth at +1.2.

EXTEND THE STREAK
Junior forward Rene Diop picked up a pair of blocks versus Charleston to extend his streak of blocking at least one shot this season to 14 consecutive games. The Dakar, Senegal native has tallied two or more blocks in nine of 14 contests, including multiple blocks in six of the last seven games. Diop continues to lead the MEC in blocks per game (2.2), and is inching his way up the Concord record books in career blocks. Diop now has 105 career blocks which puts him within two of tying Mike Neal (1995-00) for fourth at CU. And four more blocks would match Carl Booker (1993-96) for third at Concord. And Diop is top 25 among active Division II players in blocks, but is third among players of junior status in career blocks. Diop had three blocks in two games versus Glenville State last season.

GETTING A MULLIGAN
When Concord traveled to Glenville State to end the 2023-24 season, the Mountain Lions were searching for a regular-season, program record-setting 22nd win, but were denied as the Pioneers won 80-61. Had CU won the contest, last year's Mountain Lions would have been the only team in program history to win 22 regular-season games. Tolbert was hampered in the game and finished 0-for-8 from the field in just 16 minutes of action. Diop was a bright spot in the game as he finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. CU did pull down 53 rebounds—including a season-best 22 offensive rebounds—held Glenville State to 39 percent shooting and attempted 35 free throws, but was unable to overcome a 27-percent shooting day.

YOUTH MOVEMENT
Saturday's game showcases four of the best freshmen in the MEC in Concord's Gilbert and guard Josiah Rickards going up against Glenville State's Don Colon-Lewis and Ammar Maxwell. Gilbert is fifth among freshmen in the MEC in scoring at 9.5 while his 27 blocks are the second most in the league behind only Diop's 31. Rickards is scoring 6.9 points per game this season. He has scored nine or more points in seven of Concord's 14 games this year, including netting 10 points in a road upset of West Liberty. Meanwhile, Maxwell is second in the MEC in scoring among freshmen (11.9), and he is shooting 56.7 percent from the floor. Over the last four games, Maxwell is averaging 17.2 points per game. Colon-Lewis isn't far off Maxwell's pace, averaging 11.5 points per game. Colon-Lewis' 32 three-pointers are the second most for GSU this year.

OFFENSE VERSUS DEFENSE
One of the most explosive offenses matches up with the stingiest defense in the MEC Saturday afternoon. Concord's 86.2 points per game are third in the MEC and the Mountain Lions' 46.0 percent from the field is fifth in the league. Additionally, CU's 36.9 percent shooting from three-point distance is second in the MEC. On the flip side, GSU is giving up an MEC-low 76.7 points per game while the 42 percent shooting that the Pioneers are holding the opposition to is also best in the MEC. The Mountain Lions are 5-2 this year when they score at least 85 points. Additionally, Concord is 4-2 when shooting 40 percent or better from three-point range. Glenville State has held teams to under 80 points in 11 games this winter where it sports a record of 9-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6- Concord has had six players lead it in single-game rebounding this year, including Djigo for the second time Wednesday night.

41- Points scored by Tolbert against Charleston were the most scored by a CU player inside the Carter Center since Bolte threw in 42 points against Shepherd in February 2018.

57.8- Shooting percentage for CU in its win over Glenville State last season at home.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Maxwell and Colon-Lewis are the outliers on a roster full of transfers for second-year head coach Bob Bolen. Former Marshall and University of Pikeville player Devin Collins is GSU's leading scorer at 15.6 points per game. One-time West Virginia State point guard Samier Kinsler adds 12.9 points per game and has a near 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Akron transfer Prince Mosengo is second in the MEC in rebounding at 9.4 boards per game.
