PITTSBURGH – The Concord University men's soccer team scored twice in the first half on its way to beating Point Park Sunday afternoon, 2-1, in a Mountain East Conference game at Highmark Stadium.
CU (1-0, 1-0 MEC) was on the front foot in the first 15 minutes that led to a goal in the 14
th minute from sophomore forward
Syrus Conolly. After a Mountain Lions' throw in, a shot came from the top left of the 18-yard box. The initial shot was turned aside, but Conolly pounced on the rebound and tapped in the game's first goal.
Point Park (1-1, 0-1 MEC) was able to grab back some momentum over the next 20 minutes as junior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill made his only two saves of the first half.
Holding the 1-0 lead, Concord found the back of the net in the 40
th minute. A ball crossed by the mouth of goal by junior forward

Malher Santi Possu on the back post for the Cali, Colombia native to fire his first goal of the season into the net.
PPU was able to put some pressure on the Mountain Lions early in the second half, but Scargill and the CU defense kept the Pioneers scoreless until Concord's midfield brought the Mountain Lions back on the front foot.
With 20 seconds remaining, Point Park was able to earn a penalty kick and converted.
CU outshot Point Park, 19-11, with 11 of those shots coming over the final 24 minutes. The Maroon and Gray held a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.
Possu cracked off six shots. Henry added four shots with junior forward
Patrick Alouidor tallying three shots. All three players had three shots on goal. Both of Conolly's shots were on target.
The Mountain Lions welcome West Liberty for the home opener at Callaghan Stadium 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
