BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Freshman midfielder Marika Svensson of the Concord University women's soccer team has been honored as the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Svensson, a native of Jaegerspris, Denmark, was named the MEC Offensive Player of the Week after her hat trick at Glenville State Sunday evening in CU's 5-1 win. Svensson started the scoring by tallying her third goal of the season in the 15th minute of the game—a half volley attempt from inside the penalty area. Svensson's second goal was in the 37th minute on a penalty kick.

She ended her night with a strike from approximately 30 yards in the 81st minute.

Svensson's hat trick was the eighth for Concord since the start of the 2021 season. And with Sunday's performance, Svensson moves into a tie for second in the MEC in goals this season with five.

Frostburg State goalkeeper Katie Sterne was the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Mountain Lions face Fairmont State in a road game 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Duvall-Rosier Field.
