FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University volleyball team erased a first set loss to defeat Frostburg State 3-1 in a Mountain East Conference game at Bobcat Arena Friday evening.

The Mountain Lions improve to 6-8 on the season and starts 1-0 1 against MEC competition. Frostburg State falls to 4-7 and 0-1 in MEC play.

Set 1
After FSU jumped out to a 4-0 advantage, CU got rolling with a kill from sophomore right side

Kyndra Pilant swung for back-to-back kills midway through the frame as CU trailed by four, 13-9. Sophomore outside hitter
Meg Williams heated up, smashing two kills during a 7-1 Concord run that put the Mountain Lions ahead 16-15. Sophomore middle hitter

Maddie Stull added two kills each in the back half of the set, but the Bobcats took the game, 25-23.

Set 2
The Mountain Lions got the second set started with a pair of blocks spearheaded by Pilant. While Frostburg State grabbed an 11-7 lead, Stull, Brown, and Thompson led a four-point charge to knot the scoring 11-11. A service ace from sophomore setter
Declyn Tooze gave Concord its first lead of the frame, 16-15. CU extended its advantage to 19-16 on back-to-back kills from Anderson. Thompson swung for three kills to end the set and tie the match, 25-21.

Set 3
As both teams traded points to get the third set underway, the Maroon and Gray rattled off six straight to lead by five, 11-6. The run was led by three kills from Thompson. FSU would tie the frame 13-13, but Brown calmed the Bobcats' charge to give CU its edge back, 15-13. Williams connected on two kills late in the game along with four Frostburg State attack errors to lead by two 21-19. Sophomore setter
Paige Richmond served an ace and Brown added another kill as Concord took a 2-1 lead in the contest 25-22.

Set 4
Brown and Williams got CU running and ahead in the fourth game, 3-2. Anderson added two more kills and assisted on a block as part of a 4-0 Maroon and Gray run to grow the score to 8-6. As the Bobcats closed in, Pilant and Stull blocked an FSU attack to cap off a five-point spurt as Concord led 13-7. Brown and Pilant assisted on the third of four blocks in the frame that kept the Mountain Lions ahead 18-13. Concord scored seven of the last eight points in the match as CU grabbed its first MEC victory of 2024. Williams hit for three kills down the final stretch of the contest.

Match Stats
The Mountain Lions had four players notch double-doubles in the contest led by Williams with 13 kills and 23 digs. Other double-double performers include Thompson (12 kills, 13 digs), Richmond (25 assists, 11 digs), and Tooze (24 assists, 10 digs). Sophomore defensive specialist
Allie Davis added 22 digs and eight assists. Pilant led all players in the match with five total blocks.

Concord stays on the road to challenge West Virginia State in its second MEC game of the fall Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Institute, W.Va.
