ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Athletic Department in conjunction with the Concord University Office of Veterans' Services and Princeton Senior High School JROTC Program will hold a short program 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 7 to place the American flag on Christie/Cox Court inside the Carter Center.

The original date was September 30, but had to be rescheduled for October 7, due to Mercer County Schools being closed for power restoration from Hurricane Helene's impact on the area.

With the renovations of the Carter Center complete—new bleachers, updated scoreboards and new rims and backboards installed for basketball season—the completion of the gym is now ready for the Stars and Stripes to be hung.

"With all the new renovations to the gymnasium, we felt it was a great opportunity to join with the veterans program on campus, led by Dr. George Williams and the Princeton High JROTC to properly hang and honor a new flag in our facility," co-Athletic Director Tesla Soutchott said.

"We are proud of the opportunity our athletes have to play and compete in this facility. This is a gesture we can honor the veterans who have fought for us to do so."

The ceremony is open to the public.
