PERFECT WEEKEND
CU will open up MEC conference action fresh off an undefeated 4-0 weekend at the 2024 Concord Classic. The Mountain Lions began the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over MEC-foe Davis & Elkins in a non-conference contest and rounded out day one with a 3-2 win over Virginia State. Day two included two more wins, a 3-1 win over Pikeville and a three-set sweep of Mercer County rival Bluefield State. It was the fifth time CU hosted the Concord Classic, but the first time the Mountain Lions went undefeated at the tournament. To cap off the event, sophomore outside hitter
Meg Williams and sophomore right side
Natalie Brown were named to the all-tournament team.
Â
DOUBLE DIGIT DISPLAY
In the five-set thriller against Virginia State, CU had three players record a double-double. Williams led Concord with 15 kills and 19 digs, as well as a .314 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter
Chloe Thompson also hit for a double-double, logging 13 kills and 10 digs. Seven of Thompson's 13 kills came in the third set of the match. The final double-double for CU was sophomore setter
Declyn Tooze, assisting on 19 Mountain Lions points and digging 14 Trojans attacks. CU had three double-doubles in a single game three times last season, with the most recent coming against Glenville State last November.
Â
TOUGH TO ATTACK
Heading into league play, CU presents a gritty defensive unit. Among the conference rankings, CU is fourth in team blocks per set (1.96) and team digs per set (14.54). Both senior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant (fifth) and sophomore middle hitter
Jasmine Anderson (seventh) fall inside the top 10 in blocks per set. CU swatted away double-digit blocks in three of its four matches at the Concord Classic, with Anderson (seven) notching a new career-best in total blocks against Pikeville. In the back row, sophomore defensive specialist
Allie Davis moved up to second in the league and into the top 40 nationally averaging 4.78 digs per set, logging at least 20 digs in her last three games.

As a team, Frostburg State ranks third in the conference in service aces per set (1.65). Â
