ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team lost 3-0 to Charleston Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Callaghan Stadium.
CU (2-3-1, 2-1-1 MEC) controlled the run of play in the first half, but only had four shots to show for—all off target. Concord almost got an own goal from Charleston (4-2, 4-0 MEC) in the 15
th minute, and tallied two corner kicks consecutively after the nervous moment for the Golden Eagles.
The second half was more balanced as Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the 56
th minute on a strike from outside the 18-yard box. UC scored two more times after Concord giveaways in the defensive half—in the 64
th and 76
th minutes.

Caitlin Webster attempted to curl one of her two shots in the game into the goal in the 78
th minute, but the shot was off line. Junior midfielder
Jessica Neville had the last CU shot of the contest with a rising attempt high in the 85
th minute.
The Mountain Lions outshot Charleston for the game, 10-9, but none of the shots were on frame. Freshman defender
Ella Rowell recorded three shots. Neville and Webster each had two shots.

Gabby Griffith was in goal for 59 minutes as she replaced freshman goalkeeper
Maddie Loughborough who left with injury. Griffith made two saves in the contest.
Concord begins a two-game road trip 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Glenville State.
