FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University football team fell to Frostburg State 54-21 Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Bobcat Stadium.
After watching Frostburg State (3-0, 2-0 MEC) run out to a 13-0 lead through 16 minutes of play, the Mountain Lions responded with 14 straight points.
After the Bobcats' second touchdown at the 14:16 mark of the second quarter, freshman wide receiver
Jeremiah Valdry gave CU a boost by returning the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for his fist career touchdown. The Concord defense used the momentum to forced an FSU three-and-out.
On the next Mountain Lions' possession, graduate quarterback
Blayne Ferguson found redshirt freshman wide receiver
Zion Odoms for a 29-yard connection that pushed CU inside the Frostburg State 30-yard line. Two plays later, a personal foul moved the ball inside the red zone where Ferguson hit sophomore wide receiver
Jake Roberts for a 12-yard touchdown at the 8:38 mark of the second.
FSU moved the ball methodically over the final eight minutes and scored with 1:15 remaining in the first half to take a six-point lead at the intermission, 20-14.
Halftime was extended with a lightning delay to nearly an hour, and out of the break Frostburg State scored 17 straight points to lead 37-14 after three quarters.
The Mountain Lions did get a late touchdown on a 55-yard connection from junior quarterback
Kameron Howard to senior running back
JQ Brown to the fourth quarter.
In relief of Ferguson, Howard finished the day 7-of-14 for 156 yards and a touchdown. Freshman wide receiver
Marcus Striggles caught four passes for 86 yards, including a 51-yard strike. Brown's long reception allowed him to finish with 63 receiving yards.
