Concord Places Second at Virginia Tech Alumni Meet

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Concord University men's cross country team placed second at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite Friday morning at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.

Concord scored 59 points and defeated East Tennessee State by seven points. Virginia Tech, the only other team in the field, won the meet with 15 points.

Sophomore Braden Ward paced CU for the second straight meet as he clocked 24:49 for the 8,000-meter course. He finished 18th, but was eighth in the scoring—after taking out the unattached runners in the field.

Senior Logan Zuchelli ran 25:07 to place 22nd, but ninth among scoring runners. Junior Alex Irvin was next in line for the Mountain Lions as he crossed the tape in 24th, and was 10th in scoring. Sophomore Andrew Tickle finished 29th (15th in scoring) in a showing of 25:53. Senior Ethan Board was 17th in the scoring (33rd overall) as he finished in 26:35.

Freshman Reese Hickey (34th/26:42) and sophomore AJ Skeens (35th/27:08) rounded out the Concord top seventh. Other Mountain Lions finishing Friday morning were sophomore Bramley Childress (27:18), sophomore Garrett Hatcher (27:23), freshman Brandon Canaday (27:25), sophomore Wes Holcomb (27:49), senior Zach Wilson (28:23), junior Connor Cormack (28:35), senior Bryce Legg (29:06), freshman Brady Amico (29:11), junior Johnathan Payne (32:46), senior Luke Ruhnke (35:41) and senior Madoc Lathroum (38:44).

Concord will be back in action the first week of October at the Paul Short Run October 5 at Lehigh.
