Concord Rallies for 1-1 Draw at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fought back with a late goal as it played to a 1-1 draw against Davis & Elkins at Nuttall Field Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference.

The Mountain Lions (2-0-1, 2-0-1 MEC ) watched D&E (3-0-1, 2-0-1 MEC) go up 1-0 in the 25th minute, despite Concord controlling the early part of the game. CU held a 6-3 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes.

Sophomore forward Syrus Conolly had the first chance in the second half to tie the game as his attempt in the 49th minute sailed high of the goal. Junior defender Ted Roberts was denied a goal in the 58th minute on a save by the Senators.

Later on, junior forward Richard Henry found himself on a counter attack in the 75th minute, but his sharp-angled shot from 10 yards out was left of the target.

However, CU broke through in the 83rd minute.

After a Concord throw in, junior forward Malher Santi Possu sent a cross from the goal line back into the middle of the 18-yard box. Junior forward Patrick Alouidor controlled possession after a touch, and netted his first goal of the season with a shot to the low left corner of the goal.

Alouidor had the Mountain Lions' final shot of the afternoon—a shot off target in the 87th minute.

Concord outshot the Senators 12-7 for the game, but only had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

Henry posted three shots on the day while Alouidor and senior midfielder Fabian Amhof each had two attempts.

Junior goalkeeper Miguel Oliveria saved three shots in 78 minutes after relieving fellow junior goalkeeper Nathan Scargill.

The Mountain Lions conclude their two-game road trip at West Virginia Wesleyan 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
