TAKING ON THE BEST
CU has gotten off to a tough start after losses against a pair of nationally-ranked teams in Kutztown and Gannon. Despite being outscored 5-0 last weekend, the Maroon and Gray played even with both sides. Against 25th-rated Kutztown, Concord was only outshot 11-7 in the contest despite losing 4-0. And the Mountain Lions were on the front foot for a large portion of the Gannon game as shots finished even, 10-10, but CU took 11 corner kicks to GU's one. Junior forward Holly Gray led Concord in shots in the two games with five while senior forward Sydney Tucker tallied four shots. Both Gannon and Kutztown are 3-0 this season and have combined to outscore teams 17-2.

UP AGAINST THE ORANGE AND BLACK

Even though West Virginia Wesleyan owns a sizeable 14-game lead in the all-time series, Concord continues to close the gap as the Mountain Lions are unbeaten in their last nine games versus WVWC, going 8-0-1 dating back to 2019. Concord picked up 7-0 and 2-1 wins over the Bobcats last season. Seven different goal scorers found the back of the net in late September, including Tucker recording a three-point afternoon. Graduate defender Olivia Bekeleski scored as did sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Martin with her first career goal. Tucker accounted for all the offense in the road win with senior forward Nora Voisey pitching in one of her team-best eight assists from last year.

EVENLY MATCHED
The Mountain Lions and West Virginia State have historically played close games in the short eight-game series. A 5-0 CU win in the spring of 2021 and a 4-1 Concord victory in the fall of 2021, are the lone two games that haven't been decided by one goal or ended in a draw. Concord opened up MEC play last season with a brace from junior forward Caitlin Webster on its way to a 2-1 win over WVSU. A 77th-minute goal from sophomore midfielder Katie Garratt at West Virginia State wasn't quite enough as the Yellow Jackets won 2-1. Sophomore defender Lotte Fasen provided an assist.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
All three goals for West Virginia Wesleyan on the season came in a shutout win over Salem to open the season. Ava Badallo, Kamryn Cox and Hannah Murphy found the scoring column. The loss for the Bobcats came in an evenly-played game at California (Pa.) Wednesday as the Vulcans scored in the 16th minute. Both teams registered eight shots in the contest.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
In a rematch of a 2022 NCAA Tournament game, West Virginia State fell to Bloomsburg 1-0 to open the season. The Yellow Jackets rallied for a tie at nationally-ranked Catawba Wednesday as Leila Karam scored in the 67th minute in the 1-1 draw. A four-year starter in goal, Laura Galindo has made eight saves in two games this year. WVSU starts MEC action with a visit to Glenville State Sunday night.
