OFF AND RUNNING
Concord got out to a 2-0 lead on Sunday afternoon at Point Park before bringing back a 2-1 win to Athens. Both goals for the Mountain Lions came in the first half as sophomore forward
Syrus Conolly scored in the 14
th minute before junior midfielder
Malher Santi Possu doubled the Mountain Lions' lead in the 40
th minute. It marked the third straight year that CU has earned at least a draw in its season opener. Junior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill recorded five saves before a penalty kick in the final minute of the contest got PPU on the board.
LONG TIME COMING
Wednesday will mark the first home soccer game on campus since the 2019 season when CU played host to nationally-ranked Charleston October 9, 2019. To put it in perspective, West Liberty was in its second year as a full varsity program for men's soccer. The Hilltoppers have never visited Athens in a men's soccer game as the WLU picked up a 2-1 win at the YMCA Cline Complex in Beckley over the Mountain Lions later in the 2019 season. Since the middle of the 2019 season, Concord has played 36 games away from Callaghan Stadium.
BREAKING THE STREAK
Concord took down West Liberty 1-0 last year in Beckley to snap West Liberty's six-game unbeaten streak against the Maroon and Gray, including five wins for the Hilltoppers. A 43rd-minute goal was the difference in the contest despite WLU outshooting CU 19-7 in the contest. The first game of last fall between Concord and West Liberty featured 35 shots with WLU holding a slight 18-17 edge in a 2-2 draw. Senior forward
Fabian Amhof scored in the third minute before senior defender
Kai Forsyth netted a goal in the 84
th minute with Concord playing a man down.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Zachary Forehand has had a hand in both West Liberty goals this season, scoring at Ohio Dominican in a 1-1 draw before assisting on the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Davis & Elkins Sunday. Sunday's goal was netted by Alex Watt. Colton Callen has replaced longtime WLU goalkeeper Noah Underwood between the pipes. Callen has been called upon to make 17 saves in two games. The Hilltoppers have been outshot 38-15 in two games.
