TROUTVILLE, Va. -Â The Concord University softball team lost 7-1 to Fairmont State in the opening round of the Mountain East Conference softball tournament at the Botetourt Sports Complex Wednesday evening.

CU (27-26) now faces Glenville State in an elimination game 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

A six-run first inning from the Fighting Falcons (40-11) propelled them to the victory.Â

Kylee Stacy reached base on an infield single with one out. After a walk from sophomore first baseman
Morgan Cline, Stacy moved into scoring position. Junior infielder
Courtney Raines followed with a single up the middle, plating CU's first run.Â

Despite putting runners on base in the sixth and seventh frames, Concord was unable to get any closer as FSU won by six runs.

Concord had at least one runner in base in the second, third and fourth innings before breaking through in the fifth inning to stop the shutout bid by the Fighting Falcons.

Stacy finished the game with a 3-for-4 line, scoring the lone CU run. Raines went 2-for-3 and drove in Stacy.Â
