TROUTVILLE, Va. – The Concord University softball team was clipped in a pitcher's duel at the Mountain East Conference Tournament as they fell 1-0 to Glenville State at the Botetourt Sports Complex.
Glenville State (26-19) plated a run in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out single that held up as the game's lone run.
The Mountain Lions (27-27) put a runner on base in the top of the first via a GSU error, but didn't have a base runner again until the fifth inning when sophomore utility
Kayla Sholter drew a two-out walk. Junior utility
Kylee Stacy reached base on her 79
th hit of the season with a one-out single in the sixth. However, she was stranded at first to end the frame.
Representing the tying run, a line drive single into center field pushed junior infielder
Kassidy Garvey onto the bases with two outs in the seventh. But a foul out extinguished Concord's final chance to tie the contest.
Senior pitcher
Nancy-Jo Roberts (13-9) did not allow a hit after the first inning and retired 12 of 15 batters between the second and sixth innings. She allowed one run on two hits and issued two walks.
Garvey and Stacy both were 1-for-3 in the contest. Stacy finished the year one hit shy of tying the all-time single-season hits record at Concord.
