COMING UP CLUTCH
Concord got back above .500 on the season as it defeated Emory & Henry 8-7 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game. CU's third-straight win came on a walk-off single from freshman catcher Marshall Basham. The Christiansburg, Virginia native notched a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to lift Concord to the win. Basham has three multi-hit games in his last four contests and has boosted his average to .299 for the season. But with runners in scoring position, Basham is hitting .333 (9-for-27). Among hitters with at least 20 at-bats with runners in scoring position, senior infielder Chris Satcher leads CU with a .432 average (19-for-44). Fifth-year senior infielder Zack Saryeldin is batting .393 (11-for-28) with RISP. As a team, the Mountain Lions hit .339 this season when there's an RBI opportunity.

AT THE TOP
Over the last seven games, Concord has batted junior utility MJ Hunter, graduate infielder Daniel Layne and junior outfielder Demetri Jamison in the first three spots of the batting order. Over that time, Hunter has collected eight hits. Layne carries a seven-game hitting streak into Sunday's action as he has gone 10-for-22—a .454 average—over that time. And Jamison is batting .409, 9-of-22, since being vaulted into the third spot in the order. He has tallied three home runs, two doubles and four RBI while hitting safely in nine of the last 11 games.

SUCCESS VERSUS THE SENATORS
The Mountain Lions have won nine straight and 11 of 12 games against Davis & Elkins dating back to the start of the 2021 season. Even though CU has a lengthy winning streak versus D&E, five of the nine wins have come by three runs or fewer. In last year's sweep of Davis & Elkins, Layne paced the offense by going 6-for-12 with a home run and four RBI. Sophomore utility Dawson Gragg added a 5-of-11 showing. In the second game of the series, junior pitcher Rylee Nicholas and graduate pitcher Nick Sanso combined for a four-hit shutout of the Senators as Nicholas picked up five strikeouts over six innings. In nine career games versus D&E, Saryeldin is hitting .500 (14-for-28). And on the mound, graduate pitcher Andrew Neff has tossed 20 career innings against the Senators, only allowing five earned runs and collecting 21 strikeouts.
