ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team scored late runs in back-to-back games but dropped a pair of contests to Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at the CU Softball Field Sunday afternoon.

CU falls to 22-20 and 10-12 in MEC play, while FSU improves to 30-9 overall and 14-4 in conference games.

Game One: Fairmont State 2 – Concord 1
A one-out homer in the seventh inning gave CU life, but was unable to complete the game one comeback.

Down 2-0 with just two outs left to give, sophomore pitcher
Madison Hollis connected on a ball that cleared the left field wall for her second home run this season, a solo shot. Fairmont State pitcher Delaney Haller bounced back with a groundout and a lineout, sealing the game one victory.

The Fighting Falcons plated a run each in the second and fifth innings.

Other baserunners for CU in the game included sophomore catcher
Morgan Gleason, who was hit by a pitch in the third inning, and Hollis who hit into an FSU error in the fourth.

Hollis (9-10) pitched all seven innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters.

Game Two: Fairmont State 4 – Concord 3
CU brought the game-winning run to the plate with two outs in the seventh, but was unable to complete the game two comeback.

Down 4-1, the seventh inning rally began when junior outfielder
Kayla McCraw hit a leadoff home run to left field, the first of her career. Then, graduate outfielder
Jolie Privett smacked a one-out double to the left center gap. With two outs, junior infielder
Courtney Raines traded places with Privett to bring CU within one, 4-3.

Haller entered the game the next at-bat and recorded the save as Fairmont State ended the late Concord charge.

Back-to-back doubles from junior infielder
Kylee Stacy and Raines in the third inning gave CU a 1-0 lead before the Fighting Falcons scored four runs across the fifth and sixth frames.

Raines finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs driven in.

Josi Ervin pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and just one earned run. Senior pitcher
Nancy-Jo Roberts (10-7) was the pitcher of record in relief.

CU travels to Glenville State for a MEC doubleheader Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m.
