ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team returns home for the first time in 18 days as it welcomes Notre Dame and Salem to Anderson Field for doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday, starting at 1:00 p.m.

RALLY LIONS
In a win at Fairmont State Sunday afternoon, Concord erased a 5-2 deficit in the seventh inning as it defeated the Fighting Falcons 7-6 in eight innings. Junior infielder Brendan Brady and senior infielder Daniel Layne supplied an RBI each in a two-run eighth inning to assist in the rally. Sunday marked the second time this year that CU has comeback to win in its final two-bats. To open the season, the Mountain Lions scored five runs in the eighth inning to defeat Bluefield State, 14-12. With two RBI at Fairmont State, Layne now has 11 this season which is third on the team behind fifth-year senior infielder Zack Saryeldin's 17 and senior infielder Chris Satcher's 16 RBI.

DOWN TO THE WIRE
Three of the last four games and four of the previous six contests between Concord and Notre Dame have been decided by two runs or less. Layne's fifth-inning, two-run home run was the difference in a 3-1 road win last season. Graduate pitcher Andrew Neff struck out six over six innings last season, allowing just one run. NDC notched a walk-off win, 5-4, over the Mountain Lions in the second game of the 2023 doubleheader. Layne totaled four total RBI in Saryeldin has hit safely in five of his six career games versus Notre Dame, and is 6-for-14 against the Falcons in his last four games. In Athens two years ago, Concord won the second game, 10-3, after losing 6-3 in the opener.

COOLING THEM OFF
Concord's veteran pitching staff of Neff, graduate student Eddie Blake and junior pitcher Rylee Nicholas seek to quiet a Salem lineup that is hitting north of .330 on the season. Neff has one career appearance versus Salem, a 2022 win. Neff tossed 7.1 innings against the Tigers where he struck out six batters and allowed four runs. CU recorded 13 hits and nine runs in a 9-4 win. Current Mountain Lions fifth-year senior infielder Michael Dupont (two) and junior utility MJ Hunter (three) combined for five RBI. Salem tallied 11 runs in an 11-2 win over Concord two years ago. During the month of March, Salem is 9-3, and most recently scored 41 combined runs in a doubleheader sweep of Davis & Elkins.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Caden Gomes and Alexander Jones are both hitting over .400 this season with Jones adding 16 RBI. Carson Petrecca has a team-best 20 RBI. Notre Dame is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after losses to West Virginia Wesleyan and a midweek defeat to nationally-ranked and mutual CU opponent, Ashland. Before the three-game losing streak, NDC piled up 36 runs in two victories over Davis & Elkins.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Salem has not played on the road since the second weekend of February when it traveled to North Georgia. SU's team batting average of .336 is 11th in Division II. Mackenzie Wainwright, a former fourth round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds, is batting .463 with five home runs and 17 RBI. Tyler Shinn (28) and Brett Ehr (24) are both up over 20 RBI. The Tigers have a team ERA of 4.63. Frankie Gulko is 4-1 with a 2.88 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 34 innings.
