EXTRA BASE SHOWCASE
Junior infielder Courtney Raines ripped a double down the left field line in game one Sunday against West Virginia State, her team-leading 10th double on the year. Her 10 doubles are good for first in the MEC and ties her for sixth in the country. Before the start of the 2024 season, Raines hit just nine career doubles with four coming in her freshman campaign and hitting five last spring. The Salem, Va. native got her junior season started by hitting a double in five straight games. Eleven of her 26 hits this spring have gone for extra bases, including a two-run home run at Bluefield State. Raines is second amongst qualified Mountain Lions hitters with a .356 batting average and is slugging .534 through 24 games.

GOING, GOING, GONE
Speaking of slugging, sophomore infielder Lacie Lewis is slugging a team-best .623 this season. Lewis also leads CU with four home runs, tying her for third in the conference. Lewis' four home runs also ties her home run total from last season. Like Raines, Lewis got her year started with home runs in three consecutive games and most recently crushed a solo shot over the left field wall to get CU on the board in Sunday's 5-2 win over West Virginia State. Thirteen of her 17 hits have gone for extra bases, including nine doubles, trailing Raines for second in the MEC. As a team, CU leads the league in doubles (37) and is slugging .411. Sophomore pitcher/infielder Madison Hollis, freshman infielder Kendall Morgan, and graduate outfielder Jolie Privett have also added four doubles each.

PITCHING DUEL
In four games against each other last season, CU and Glenville State scored a combined 16 runs and went to extra innings twice. Both starting pitchers return to face off again this spring, pitting Concord senior pitcher Nancy-Jo Roberts against GSU fifth-year pitcher Holly Brehm. The Pioneers bested the Mountain Lions at the Sue Morris Complex 2-1 and 1-0 in eight innings. CU avenged the losses with a 1-0 walk-off win in nine innings at the CU Softball Complex. This spring, Brehm (1.13) and freshman pitcher Meghan Stump (1.04) own the MEC's two best earned run averages. Roberts tossed all nine innings against GSU in Athens last season and enters Wednesday with a 5-5 record.

The Pioneers started MEC play 1-3, splitting the opening set with West Virginia State and losing two extra-inning games to Charleston.
