ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team embarks on the start of Mountain East Conference play when it travels to Frostburg State 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Fairmont State 1:00 p.m. Sunday in a pair of doubleheaders.

ON A ROLL
The Mountain Lions ride a four-game winning streak into the weekend after wins over Mercyhurst, D'Youville, UVa.-Wise and Emory & Henry. As a team, CU is averaging 10 runs per game in the last four contests. During the winning streak, junior utility MJ Hunter is hitting .409 (9-for-22) and has scored seven runs. In a bit of a limited number of at-bats, senior infielder Michael Dupont is hitting 4-for-8 (.500) in the last four games with a home run, a double and four RBI. Junior pitcher Rylee Nicholas has tossed nine innings in two of the last four games, giving up seven hits and three earned runs and striking out nine. Nicholas has four or more strikeouts in his last four appearances. The Mountain Lions won 12 straight games from March 27-April 14 last season.

EVENLY MATCHED
Saturday will be the 10^th and 11^th all-time meetings between Concord and Frostburg State with CU holding a slight 5-4 series edge. The Mountain Lions won three of the four games last season, sweeping the regular season before the teams split games at the MEC Tournament. CU scored nine runs in each regular-season game as it tallied 9-5 and 9-7 wins. The Maroon and Gray defeated FSU 5-2 in the MEC Tournament, but it was the Bobcats that outlasted Concord, 7-6 in 12 innings, later in the tournament. Graduate pitcher Andrew Neff was 2-0 last season versus Frostburg State as he tossed 12.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs and notching 14 strikeouts. And in his career, Neff has racked up 26 strikeouts versus the Bobcats. Senior infielder Chris Satcher was 4-for-7 at Frostburg State two years ago, and homered in the regular season versus FSU in 2023.

CLOSELY CONTESTED
Five of the last seven games between Concord and Fairmont State have been decided by one or two runs, including a pair of one-run wins for CU last season at home, 6-5 and 4-3. Satcher homered in the first game at Anderson Field to power the 6-5 victory. And in the 4-3 contest, junior infielder Brendan Brady's single into right field provided a walk-off victory for the Mountain Lions. Two years ago, Fairmont State won at home, 8-6 and 1-0—the 1-0 win was a walk-off for the Fighting Falcons.  Graduate pitcher Eddie Blake has struck out 15 in 10.2 career innings versus FSU. Blake won his start against Fairmont State last season.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
One of the best players in the MEC, Ethan Kiple, is batting .375 this season with two home runs, 15 RBI and five doubles. He has hit safely in 11 of 12 games. Randy Steen is second on the team with 17 hits this spring, and tops the conference with 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts. Jacob McDonald and Max Proctor have both won two games on the mound with McDonald recording 20 strikeouts.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
Vince Sabatino is hitting a team-best .345 with a pair of home runs. Quintin Smith and Ryan Goff are both batting .324 through 10 games. The Fighting Falcons just picked up their first win of the season with an 8-0 win over Bloomsburg, but FSU has not played in two weeks. Logan McClure has 10 strikeouts in 12 innings and was the winning pitcher against Bloomsburg.
