BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Concord University softball team defeated Bluefield State 12-0 and 16-0 with both games only going five innings in a non-conference doubleheader at Graham Rec Field Wednesday evening.

CU improves to 12-8 on the season. BSU drops to 5-12 this year.

Game 1: Concord 12 – Bluefield State 0 (Five Innings)
Concord's bats were hot from the start, plating seven runs in the top of the first inning.

Junior infielder
Courtney Raines, freshman infielder
Kendall Morgan, and sophomore pitcher/infielder
Madison Hollis started the game with RBI singles to push Concord out to a 4-0 advantage.

Later in the inning, graduate catcher/outfielder
Jolie Privett smacked a triple to left center field and scored two more CU runs. A BSU error scored Privett to end the first inning rally.

Privett and Raines added RBI singles in the third inning to extend the lead, 9-0.

Following another Big Blues error that scored Concord's 10
th run, sophomore first baseman
Morgan Cline drove in two runs on a single up the middle and made the score 12-0.

Senior pitcher
Nancy-Jo Roberts (5-3) earned the win, pitching all five innings and allowing no runs. Roberts only allowed five hits and did not walk a BSU batter while striking out two.

Sophomore catcher
Morgan Gleason recorded three hits in the game and scored twice. Raines, Morgan, Cline, Privett, and Hollis all drove in multiple runs.

As a team, CU logged 11 hits and only struck out three times.

Game 2: Concord 16 – Bluefield State 0 (Five Innings)
The Mountain Lions scored in all five innings played in game two to secure a 16-0 win.

Raines got Concord on the board in the first inning with a two-run home run, her first of the season.
Â
After a single from Gleason, CU scored three more runs on an error by Bluefield State to lead 6-0 after the first frame.
Â
Concord scored two more runs in the second inning and four runs in the third inning to lead 12-0 once again.

After drawing a walk in the fourth inning, Privett stole second base and scored on a double from sophomore infielder
Lacie Lewis. Two batters later, Raines traded places with Lewis, scoring her on another RBI double to lead 14-0.

After two walks in the fifth inning, Privett cleared the bases on a two-RBI double that would cap off CU's scoring, 16-0.

In the circle, Hollis (5-3) pitched 3.0 innings, giving up four hits but allowing zero runs. Freshman pitcher
Josi Ervin followed her with 2.0 innings of relief, only giving up one hit and one walk. Both Hollis and Ervin struck out four BSU hitters.

In the doubleheader, Privett recorded eight RBI while Raines was 5-for-6 with six RBI.

In game two, Lewis, junior utility
Kylee Stacy and Raines were a combined 7-for-11 with six runs scored and five RBI. Cline, Gleason and Hollis all added two hits as part of a 15-hit attack.

Concord's 16 runs are the most in a game since they defeated Bluefield State 16-5 in 2019.

The Mountain Lions open Mountain East Conference play Saturday against Charleston in a doubleheader at the CU Softball Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
