ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team wraps up its seven-game homestand when it hosts Ashland in a three-game set from Anderson Field Sunday and Monday in non-conference play.

STRONG ARMS
Graduate pitchers
Eddie Blake and
Andrew Neff were stellar in their appearances against Pitt-Johnstown. Blake pitched 6.2 innings as he racked up seven strikeouts and allowed just one earned run. Dating back to last March, of Blake's last seven outings that have covered at least five innings, the Moneta, Virginia native has racked up five strikeouts five times. Neff was named both the Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week and National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Regional Pitcher of the Week after six shutout innings. It was Neff's first career appearance that covered at least five shutout innings. And in the series finale versus UPJ, freshman pitcher
Jake Robinson earned his first career save by tossing 2.1 shutout innings.
BIG TIME OPPONENT
The Mountain Lions welcome Ashland, a perennial NCAA Tournament team, for the second time in as many years. Last year, the Eagles swept CU in a three-game series at Anderson Field. After losing 8-1 in the series opener, game two was tightly contest. Concord tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth, but AU plated a run in the top of the seventh to squeeze out a victory. And in the series finale, all the scoring was done from the sixth inning on as CU trailed 5-4 after seven innings before Ashland scored four runs in its final two at-bats. Layne had a homer and two RBI in the middle game of the series. Saryeldin also had a home run in the series as he collected four total hits. Neff struck out six in his start versus AU that covered seven innings.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Ashland has made four NCAA Tournament appearances dating back to the 2018 season. The Eagles welcome back five of their top six hitters from last season. Chris Franks hit .359 last season with seven home runs and 40 RBI. Cam Miller batted .343 last spring with 27 RBI and a team-best 15 doubles. Marshall Leishman struck out 12 batters at Concord last year, and went 5-1 on the mound. Two-way player Cam Scott won six games on the mound in 2023 while hitting .319 at the plate.
