ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Athletic Department is saddened by the recent passing of Concord Athletics Hall of Fame member and former three-sport standout Crystal Kestner.

Kestner passed away last week after a lengthy, but courageous fight against cancer.

Kestner played softball and women's basketball and was a thrower for the Concord women's track & field team during her time at CU from 1998-2002.

"We send our deepest sympathies to her family and friends during this extremely difficult time," Concord Co-Athletic Director and head women's basketball coach Tesla Southcott said. "It was great to have Crystal on campus during Homecoming weekend and to honor her legacy and what she meant to Concord Athletics."

Kestner was inducted into the Concord Hall of Fame in 2013.

Perhaps, Kestner's best sport was softball where she was a second team all-region selection in 2000. She was named to the all-conference first team three times (1999, 2001, 2002). Kestner's career batting average of .381 sits fourth all-time at Concord while her 140 RBI are third. She ranks top 10 in program history in a variety of other career and single-season categories including career home run (fifth/18) and single-season batting average (fifth/.433 in 2001).

On the hardwood, Kestner was named to the 2002 All-WVIAC Tournament Team, and ranks ninth in program history with 668 rebounds.

And Kestner still holds the outdoor track shot put record at 11.58 meters in 2002.

Funeral services were held over the weekend for Kestner.
