TOWERING OVER
In Concord's 82-64 win at Salem Saturday afternoon, the Maroon and Gray received double-doubles from both junior forward Rene Diop and freshman forward Kraig Gilbert. Diop scored 10 points and ripped down a season-high 11 rebounds for his sixth career double-double, tying junior guard Kollin Tolbert for the active team lead. It's was Diop's first double-double since the final game of the regular season last year at Glenville State. Gilbert notched his first career double-double by matching his career high in points with 14 to go with 10 rebounds. The last instance of a Concord player having a double-double before Saturday was also when two players—Tolbert and former Mountain Lion JJ Harper—had double-doubles in the MEC Tournament last year versus West Liberty. Diop now leads CU in rebounding at 6.7 per game, 11th in the conference.

MULTIPLE OPTIONS
For the second straight game, the Mountain Lions received 10 or more points from five different players at Salem. No Concord player scored more in the game than Gilbert's 14 points. Senior guard Corey Boston dropped in 13 points and averaged 15.5 points per game in two contests in his return from injury last week. Tolbert netted 11 as he and senior forward Amare Smith (10 points at Salem) are the only two CU players that have scored in double figures in all seven games this season. Smith has scored in double figures in nine consecutive games dating back to last season. And Diop threw in 10 points as part of his double-double. Concord will be aiming to put five players in double figures for a third straight game Wednesday, something it hasn't done since a three-game stretch at the end of the 2022-23 season.

GET ON THE GLASS
CU had its best rebounding game of the season at Salem. The Maroon and Gray finished one rebound shy of its season-best 50 rebounds logged against West Virginia State November 26, however, Concord had its greatest rebounding margin of the season on the road, +23 (49-26). Diop and Gilbert paced the rebounding effort with Diop's six offensive rebounds being a season high for any CU player. Tolbert added five boards in the contest as he remained above six rebounds per game for the year. The Mountain Lions turned 19 offensive rebounds into 20 second-chance points. And the +23 rebounding margin for Concord was the widest margin since last's year +25 margin at home versus Frostburg State in December.

TOP TWO
Wednesday night will be a matchup of the top two scorers in the MEC in Tolbert and Frostburg State's Jaden Baker. Tolbert is the only player in the league averaging at least 20 points per game (22.0). The Cincinnati, Ohio native is tied for 18th in Division II in scoring. Baker is close to the 20-point threshold as the Bentley transfer is pouring in 19.7 points per game. Since being held to two points in the third game of the season at Shepherd, Baker is averaging 25.5 points per game in the last six contests, including two 30-point performances versus Davis & Elkins and at Charleston. For Tolbert, not only has he netted double figures in all seven games, but he has shot 45 percent or better from the floor in four of seven games this year and is shooting an even 50 percent (11-of-22) from the three-point range.

EXTEND THE STREAK
Not only is Concord looking to improve its winning streak to four consecutive wins this winter, but CU also is seeking its sixth straight win over Frostburg State. In last year's home win over the Bobcats, 86-65, the Mountain Lions limited FSU to 32.1 percent shooting. Junior forward Ayden Ince notched a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. At Frostburg State, Concord overcame the Bobcats shooting 65 percent from three-point range in an 84-74 win. CU shot 47.8 percent from the floor. Diop scored 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Sophomore guard Georges Archer and Boston both scored 10 points on a combined 7-for-12 shooting. The Mountain Lions' average winning margin in their five-game win streak over Frostburg State is 13.2 points.

DIFFERENT STYLES
Concord is third in the MEC in points per game at 88.1 which also ranks 27th in Division II. The Mountain Lions are middle of the pack in the conference in shooting percentage (sixth/45.1). While CU likes to get up and down the floor, Frostburg State has one of the slower paces in the conference. The Bobcats are allowing the third-fewest points per game in the MEC (77.3), but FSU is also 10th in scoring (68.2 points per game). FSU is allowing the highest field-goal defense in the conference (48.6 percent) while Concord's has improved considerably during the last three games and is now seventh in the conference (44.6). Frostburg State has only held two teams under 45 percent shooting this winter—Shepherd and Bowie State.
