INDIANAPOLIS – The Concord University men's soccer team jumped two spots in the NCAA Division II Super Region One Rankings that were released Wednesday afternoon prior to Concord's 6-4 win over Davis & Elkins in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Semifinals.
Despite Charleston losing to Concord last week, UC remained the top-ranked team in the region. Southern New Hampshire and Franklin Pierce, both of the Northeast-10, were second and third. A pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams, Gannon and Bloomsburg, occupied spots four and five. Felician, out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and Post, also from the CACC were sixth and seventh.
Concord was ahead of New Haven and Mercy who were ninth and tenth. Adelphi and Seton Hill were the final two teams in this week's rankings.
Five conference champions from the Mountain East Conference, NE-10, CACC, PSAC and East Coast Conference qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament. The five best at-large teams from Super Region One also advance to the national tournament.
After Wednesday's win, Concord goes for the automatic from the MEC when it travels to Charleston for the MEC Championship 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
