WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team raced out to a three-goal lead on its way to a 4-1 win against Wheeling Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference game at Bishop Schmitt Field.
In the sixth minute, a goal kick from junior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill bounded into the midfield where after taking a couple bounces was settled by sophomore forward
Ignacio Alvarez Maina who blasted his third goal of the season from just under 30 yards.
Alvarez tallied the second CU (6-2-2, 5-1-2 MEC) goal in the 16
th minute on a counter attack. Coming down the left flank, junior midfielder
Patrick Alouidor pushed a pass back into the middle of the penalty area where Alvarez was able to score.

Richard Henry posted a goal in the 43
rd minute, and a series of action inside the penalty area in the 57
th minute resulted in a goal for Alouidor.
Between the third and fourth goals for the Mountain Lions, Scargill stopped a Wheeling (0-8-3, 0-6-2 MEC) penalty kick in the 49
th minute for one of his three saves in the contest.
The Cardinals were able to avoid the shutout with a goal in the 72
nd minute.
Eight of the 12 shots for Concord were on frame. All four shots for Alvarez were on target. Alouidor and sophomore forward
Syrus Conolly both had two shots.
The Mountain Lions close out a two-game road trip at Frostburg State 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
