ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team busted out for 11 goals in a shutout win over Salem Sunday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at Callaghan Stadium.
Sunday was head coach
Luke Duffy's 100
th career win at Concord.
Concord (4-4-1) raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes as senior forward
Sydney Tucker, junior forward
Caitlin Webster and freshman midfielder
Marika Svensson found the back of the net early on. Webster only needed 13 minutes to tally a two-goal game as she scored for the second time.
Freshman midfielder Tiana Capmbell netted the first of her two goals in the 18
th minute before Tucker scored again in the 19
th minute. The first-half scoring was concluded by senior defender
Leah Fleming who netted her second goal of the season in the 23
rd minute.
For the second time in the last week, CU had a player record a hat trick as Tucker polished of her first career hat trick in the 47
th minute—Svensson had a hat trick last Sunday at Glenville State.
The final three goals in the contest came courtesy of junior forward
Emma Landolfo (65'), Campbell (83') and freshman midfielder
Ailsa Swinburne (85').
Seven different Mountain Lions had assists in the game as Fleming and Svensson finished with three-point days and Webster went for a five-point game. Other CU players with assists Sunday included senior midfielder
Anna Davis, senior defender
Emma Ring, freshman defender
Ella Rowell and senior forward
Nora Voisey.
The Concord backline did not allow a Salem (0-9) shot in the game while offensively CU blasted 38 shots with 25 on target. Senior goalkeeper
Hanna Cooper, sophomore goalkeeper
Kayla Garza and freshman goalkeeper
Gabby Griffith combined for the shutout.
The 11 goals scored were the most for the Mountain Lions since netting 12 versus Glenville State in 2018.
