WISE, Va. – The Concord University volleyball team was defeated by UVa.-Wise 3-0 in a non-conference matchup held at the Prior Center Saturday evening.

With the loss, the Mountain Lions fall to 7-10 overall on the season, while UVa.-Wise moves to 8-6. The final set scores were 25-27, 20-25, and 14-25.

Set 1
Trailing 4-1 early, CU got some juice when sophomore right side
Natalie Brown swung for a kill to kickstart a five-point run to take a 6-4 lead. The Cavaliers scored on back-to-back rallies to knot the frame 7-7 before a kill from sophomore right side
Meagan Poticher gave the advantage back to the Mountain Lions. Sophomore outside hitter
Chloe Thompson added three kills throughout the set as CU held on to a 20-18 edge. After a four-point UVa.-Wise swing that put the Cavaliers ahead, senior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant and Brown added kills as Concord led 25-24. However, three straight UVa.-Wise points closed out the first set, 27-25.

Set 2
Pilant and Brown combined for a block to get the second set underway. Thompson and sophomore middle hitter
Jasmine Anderson each swung for a kill to bring the Maroon and Gray within four midway through the frame, 13-9. Then, trailing by six, Concord stuck around with a solo block by Anderson, as well as two Cavaliers attack errors to come within three. Thompson hammered two more kills in the closing moments of the game, but UVa.-Wise took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Brown got Concord on the board in the third frame of action, scoring the first two points of the frame for the Mountain Lions. Freshman right side
Maddie Stull, sophomore outside hitter
Meg Williams, and Anderson collected kills in the final set, but UVa.-Wise eventually completed the 3-0 sweep.

Match Stats
Thompson was the only CU to reach double-digit kills, swinging for 10 in the match. Sophomore defensive specialist
Allie Davis led all players with 18 digs in the contest. Pilant totaled five blocks and Brown contributed three total blocks.

Concord travels to Buckhannon, W.Va. Tuesday to face Mountain East Conference foe West Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
