Concord Posts Five Goals in Shutout Win at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team stretched its win streak to five games with a 5-0 victory over Davis & Elkins Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference contest at Nuttall Field.

Freshman midfielder Marika Svensson opened the scoring for the Mountain Lions in the 15th minute as she found the back of the net for the eighth time this season on a shot on the edge of the penalty area from the left side.

CU (10-5-1, 9-3-1 MEC) doubled the lead in the 31st minute as senior defender Leah Fleming hit from distance for her sixth goal of the year. The lead was more than enough as the Concord back line guided by center backs, sophomore Caitlyn Martin and senior Emma Ring, held Davis & Elkins (1-14-1, 0-12-1 MEC) without a shot for the entirety of the game.

Freshman midfielder Tiana Campbell tallied two goals in a three-minute stretch to begin the second half. Campbell's first goal came in the 50th minute on an assist by senior forward Sydney Tucker while Fleming assisted on Campbell's ninth goal of the year in the 53rd minute.

Junior forward Caitlin Webster scored for the second straight game to cap the goals in the 68th minute. It was her sixth goal of the season to go with her team-best seven assists.

The Mountain Lions registered 14 shots in the game with 11 on goal.

Campbell's brace was her fourth two-goal game of the season, and she has five goals over her last three games.

The Mountain Lions face MEC South Division-leading Charleston on the road 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
