EMORY, Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team erupted for six goals in a 6-2 win over Emory & Henry Wednesday night in a non-conference tilt at Fred Selfe Stadium.
Five of the six goals for Concord (12-2-2) came from senior forward
Fabian Amhof and junior midfielder
Malher Santi Possu.
Possu recorded his first hat trick and the first hat trick for the CU program since 2018. Amhof notched his second brace of the season with both coming in the last week.
Amhof opened the scoring with a tally in the 23
rd minute on an assist by junior defender
Ted Roberts. Possu needed just eight minutes to net his first two goals of the contest with scores in the 31
st and 39
th minutes. The first goal was assisted by freshman midfielder
Andy Cruz on what his first career point.
Up 3-1 at halftime, junior defender
Kai Forsyth scored for the second time this fall on an assist from Possu in the 51
st minute. Amhof completed his brace in the 53
rd minute while Amhof helped Possu net his hat trick on an assist in the 58
th minute. It was Possu's team-best eighth goal of the season which moves him into a tie for the top spot in the MEC.
The six goals by the Mountain Lions are the most since also scoring six versus Bluefield University October 31, 2018.
Concord outshot Emory & Henry (0-12-1) 31-6 in the game.
CU puts its eight-game winning streak up against Salem on the road 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
