BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Salem 4-1 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at The Bridge Sports Complex.
With Sunday's win, Concord matches (13-2-2) the single-season program record for wins with its 13
th victory. Additionally, CU extends its win streak to nine games.
Tied 1-1 at halftime, the Mountain Lions scored twice in a seven-minute span to open up a 3-1 lead. First it was senior forward
Fabian Amhof continuing his scoring spree—netting his fifth goal in the last four games—in the 60
th minute off an assist from junior defender
Julian Correa.
Junior midfielder
Malher Santi Possu was involved in the scoring in the 67
th minute as he connected on his team-best ninth goal after freshman midfielder
Andy Cruz passed to Possu for the insurance score.
With CU up 3-1, sophomore forward
Syrus Conolly completed his first career brace with a goal in the 89
th minute. Conolly opened up the scoring in the sixth minute on an assist from Amhof. Junior midfielder
Ben Hailes had the assist on Conolly's first goal.
After the early Concord goal, Salem (4-11-2) tied the game in the 25
th minute.
The Mountain Lions limited SU to seven shots for the game. On the other end, Concord had double-digit shots in each half as the Maroon and Gray finished with 24 shots.
Possu recorded seven shots while four other Concord players tallied three shots each.
Junior goalkeeper
Miguel Oliveria stopped five shots in his first start since September 29.
CU wraps up the regular season at home against nationally-ranked Charleston 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
