WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's cross country team finished third at the Mountain East Conference Championship Saturday morning at Oglebay Resort's Crispin Golf Course.
Davis & Elkins was the team champion after scoring 24 points. The Mountain Lions recorded 102 points to hold off West Virginia Wesleyan by 18 points for third.
The Mountain Lions had three All-MEC Second Team performers: senior
Logan Zuchelli, sophomore
Braden Ward and senior
Ethan Board. Zuchelli was 14
th as he finished the 8,000-meter course in 26:01. Ward clocked 26:20 to place 17
th. Board stop ped the timer at 26:39 to place 22nd.
Junior
Alex Irvin was two spots back in 26:56. Sophomore
AJ Skeens was 34
th as Concord's final scoring runner in a time of 27:29. Fellow sophomore
Bramley Childress finished 43
rd at 28:02.
Senior
Zach Wilson placed 52
nd in a time of 28:26. The final three competitors for the Mountains were sophomore
Andrew Tickle (55
th/28:31), freshman
Brandon Canaday (57
th/28:40) and freshman
Reese Hickey (66
th/29:13).
Jan Thewes of Davis & Elkins was the individual winner as he bested Charleston's Sam Idiens by 0.3 seconds. Thewes was the MEC Runner of the Year. D&E head coach Jason Pyles was the MEC Coach of the Year, and Glenville State's Patrick Reilly was voted as the MEC Freshman of the Year.
The Mountain Lions compete at the Atlantic Regional Championship November 9 on the campus of Lock Haven University.
